A STORY AT THE HEART OF A COLLECTION
Lake Titicaca is a very special place. This is where the appreciation for the Peruvians has taken on a whole new dimension in the story of ANNAMARIAANGELIKA. AMA fashion designer Julia had a very special and positive experience during an extreme situation that is every tourist’s nightmare. At Lake Titicaca, Julia lost her passport and forgot it on one of the small islands she had been to.
With her limited Spanish, Julia somehow had to approach the police and explain what had happened. A moment when all hope is lost, one might think. Instead, the Peruvians demonstrated their exceptional hospitality and kindness and it became a moment of deep gratitude. Two indigenous people did everything they could for Julia. For hours they did not leave her side and even called in an acquaintance who spoke English and who could explain to the police what had happened.
The experience at Lake Titicaca inspired Julia to give one of her collections the name “Little Men” in honour of her rescuers. The collection stands for the connection with these Peruvians, who have given Julia the feeling of never really being lost or a stranger in a strange land.
